Elder Futhark Runes are the oldest known runic alphabet used by Germanic tribes, dating back to around 150–800 CE. Comprising 24 characters, they were used primarily in Northern Europe for writing, divination, and magical purposes. Each rune has a name, phonetic value, and symbolic meaning tied to natural forces, mythic concepts, or aspects of life such as protection, wealth, strength, or transformation. The term "Elder" distinguishes it from later runic systems like the Younger Futhark and Anglo-Saxon Futhorc.
